I'm back from my week on the beaches of northern New South Wales, with a bit of a tan, sand in awkward places, and an overwhelming desire to get back in the kitchen to whip up tasty, varied foods! But first, a visual recapitulation of the eats from the past week (hover your mouse cursor over the image to read the specifics):

I had an amazing time up north, soaking up a significant amount of sun, relaxing, socialising, and even getting some school work done! Notable note - I went swimming at the beach in just boardies and a bikini top!! I don't have a 'bikini body' as such, but I didn't look like a complete whale with folds of fat hanging out, so yay! It's great to be home though, since there are only so many days you can subsist on fried supermarket meat! And I'm steadfastly ignoring the fact that there are only a couple of days until I have to go back to you-know-where...
*BAM!* Holy crap Catwoman! Them there are some good looking dishes!
ReplyDeleteEven if you didn't have fun, it was worth it for the food.
Those prawns, and the seafood platter, look amazing!
ReplyDeleteAlso, that seafood marinara mix looks kinda familiar.. hello Woolworths.
:D
Thanks Grokstar! Although I would reverse your closing statement - the food was the lowest point of the holiday, which really just serves to point out how much fun I had in the powerful Aussie sun! :)
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to go back to boycotting Woolies!! Bleurgh! :) And in NSW they don't even use parsley in their marinara mix?! Booo!
Meanwhile, the scallops on the seafood platter were insanely delicious. I will be working to find my own awesome version - once I find a decent source of scallops :) All the food at Fishheads was pretty dang amazing, and the service was wonderful, so I highly recommend the joint. Plus, our waiter was CUTE!
Yes, boo Woolies!! Haha. I try to not shop there (I definitely DON'T buy fresh produce there) but since I work there, it's so easy to pick up a few things on my way home.
ReplyDeleteAs far as scallops go, well, you can't go past our awesome Tassie ones.. yum. I guess you know all the tricks but when you're buying them they should be a "dirty" off-white.. if they're too white that's a sign they've been soaked in water to plump them up and make them look more appealing. Smaller ones are definitely better too. Cook them in butter with loads of garlic and try not to dribble all over your plate in anticipation..
Try Footscray fish market, maybe?
Scrumptious!!! I started reading your blog a couple of weeks ago, and it was one of a short list of inspirations for me to chuck my vegan-eatin' ways and join the carnivore club. In two weeks I have lost ten pounds (still have thirty to go, but I can't imagine that will take long) and feel better than I ever have. Thank you. :)
ReplyDeleteSo true, Lizzy-Lou! I have access to a great seafood source, so I'm all set. I usually just do butter & garlic for most of my shellfish/crayfish cooking, but the seafood platter has inspired me to get a little more inventive... :)
ReplyDeleteMs. Sat Fat - WOW! Congrats on the huge fat loss and the positive change to your way of eating! It's great when your body tells you so definitively that 'yes, this IS how I like to be fed, thanks!' :) I can't wait to hear about your ongoing progress :D
wowsres that week looks like GOOD EATIN!!!!! yum yum
ReplyDeleteAre you getting back on the ZC bandwagon? I'm 10 months now. Loving your blog.
ReplyDeleteKatelyn
Wow! Lots of great food there!
ReplyDeleteI did try meat, fish, eggs only for a few days, but I had to give up.. I was fantasising about fruit salad and spicy apple muffins and ended up having a big raspberry binge..
At least I learned something about myself and that is that I mustn't restrict the range of foods I eat too much, or that switch goes in my head...
Glad ZC continues to suit you, Katelyn! It seems to have stopped working for me in a fat-loss sense, so I'm about to start a new experiment to switch things up, and it will be more all-encompassingly Primal to better represent the changes more people could try out for themselves. That starts next week, but I'll explain it in my next post.
ReplyDeletePoor thing, Dr. A! I'm so glad I don't have that psychological tie to food - it makes it sound like a sugar addiction, doesn't it? I would hate to have an addictive personality - seen way too many friends suffer through smoking and alcohol abuse, so am glad I can take or leave all of those substances :) Cutting sugar & wheat is bloody good enough though! Thanks for all your posts whilst I've been away - I had access to my feed reader when on the beaches, so I kept in touch passively :)
Those Primal Pizzas look absolutely incredible...
ReplyDeleteSome great recipes there, thanks Jezwyn. I tried ZC for a while as an experiement, couldn't do it for long as I missed my veges too much. Now I seem to have struck a good balance with a Primal lifestyle.
